West Virginia coaches are always concerned about the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of our student athletes. Safety is the number one concern that goes in to planning a practice or an athletic event.
West Virginia Coaches have been working with student athletes since late June. We have been practicing all the protocols handed down to us by the CDC, the WVSSAC, the Governor, and our local school boards. We have been blessed with athletes who have been steadfast in following all the safety protocols, and who have been leaders in their school communities, encouraging everyone to follow the safety guidelines. After eight plus weeks of practices and workouts, we have had limited incidents or cases of Covid-19 at any of our WVSSAC sanctioned activities. The cases that did occur, to the best of our research, have been tied to out of state travel.
The WVSACA looks forward to safely welcoming students back to the classroom in September. Our school systems will take every precaution necessary to provide a safe and effective classroom environment for our West Virginia children. Our students, our parents, and our communities want a season. Let’s all work together to safely get back to academic based athletics and performing arts!
