Winter sports are coming to a close as all but the Panther basketball seasons have ended. This coming weekend, the CCHS wrestlers will compete in Huntington at the State wrestling championship and will hopefully bring home some gold. Once the weekend is over, winter sports will be in the yearbook and a fading memory. There is still a chance for a winter comeback according to the walnuts and the caterpillars. Frogs have hatched their eggs and Easter flowers are popping up everywhere. It could only mean one thing … right? The scent of fresh cut grass and fresh dirt buried in the nostrils is just around the corner, and oh yeah, spring sports. Yes, break out the cleats and sunflower seeds, oil up the glove and get a crew cut. Baseball, softball and track will fill their gas tanks and be getting underway. Hotdogs will be bubbling in the pot and smack talk echoing through the dugouts and open fields.
The Panthers will be under the command of Head Coach Shawn Krajeski this season and will take to the diamond full speed ahead. It looks as if the Panthers will have some good arms to bring the heat from the hill. They will definitely have some speed for the bases and some big gloves in the field; it should be a good season. The Lady Panther softball team will also hit the diamond running and start their season with a good returning team that has only gotten better in the off season. It will be interesting to see how this season plays out for the Lady Panthers; it should be an exciting one. The Panther track team will be chasing gold at every event this season with some great chance at sending more teams and individuals to the state meet in Charleston.
Matt Stricker returns as head coach, and it looks like he will have a stacked team this year to compete in the different events. The Panthers will be able to compete this year with the big dogs of track and field, so let’s support them as they do. CCMS will also bring back their powerhouse baseball and softball teams and will get started cracking bats pretty soon as practice begins. They will also have a good track team as near 70 kids signed up for track. It should be an interesting season. Spring is in the air, and sports will soon be in full swing, so get out and enjoy it!
