The CCPIF A, B and C teams were at home this week against the Tyler County Knights.  It was hot, tropical hot, one of the hottest days of the year, and I am sure it was even hotter in uniform.

Around the grid stood a sea of canopies, open coolers, and the food and water were spread. It was the day when nerve met possibility and grit met fight or flight. The boys put their game faces on and took the field. Tyler County’s A team went all the way last year to become the champions, and would prove to be a good matchup against the Clay A team. Any time a Clay team butts heads with Tyler County, it is always a good game. This was a tough defensive game. Clay was on top early in the game, racking up the first six points on the board. After that, it was hard getting yards for either team in the first half. The Clay A team did a great job on defense, stuffing any chance for the Knights on offense. However, Clay did find another hole in the Knight defense and scored another touchdown in the second half. Last year’s champions just couldn’t measure up to the Clay A team’s tenacity on defense. There was a lot of great blocking on the offensive line with Clay opening holes for the running backs, and Tyler just couldn’t get through their defense. The final score was Clay A tea, 12, and Tyler A team 0. The coaches did an outstanding job with the players, and it showed in their intensity.

Clay’s B and C teams scorched the field and dominated their games, too. The C team was up first and was unstoppable on offense. They deposited 18 points on the boards and seemed to score at will.  Their defense had one little bobble which allowed Tyler C team to get seven points, but that was it for the day. The C team defense closed up ranks and Tyler C team couldn’t get past the wall of yellow jerseys. The final score was Clay C team 18, Tyler C team 7. It was B team’s shot at the title, and they came in swinging. There were no rope a dopes, no games, just football at its finest. The Clay B team simply came out, dug in and destroyed the Tyler B team. Offense was blowing holes in their line and taking the house. The defense was like a brick wall. They came out with one thing on their mind and that was to chase the ball and make it hit the ground in fashion. When the smoke cleared and the last bottle of water drained, it was Clay B team 26, Tyler B team 0. They will have another couple of home games this season, and you owe it to yourself to come out and watch some great football.
