Fate has changed opportunity for the CCMS Mustang football team. Due to Covid reasons, Webster County will not be playing the Spencer Yellow Jackets in the CWVAC Championship. That means that the Mustangs are back in the hunt for the title. The game will be played at Walton at 6:30PM on Thursday, come out and support the team.

Well, the season ended for the Mustangs this past Thursday night as they went head to head with the Yellow Jackets of Spencer. It looked as though the Mustangs and the Yellow Jackets were pretty evenly matched except for Spencer’s runningback who was big, fast, and could run with the Mustang line on his back. Basically, the Mustangs had a hard time stopping their run game. However, the Mustangs didn’t go down without a fight. A win here would place them in the championship game once again against Spencer, a loss would mean the end of the season. That was what was on the line for the Mustangs, and they would have to bring their A game for sure.
The Yellow Jackets scored first but were quickly answered with a Mustang TD. The Mustangs went ahead in the game 8-6. The game continued and both defenses held their ground before the Yellow Jackets scored again making the score 8-12. The Mustangs once again answered with a clutch pass from Noah Collins to Landon Elliot to go ahead by four points. Early in the 4th period, the Yellow Jackets gave it to their big runner, and he took it in for the score as the lead changed hand again. The Mustangs had a little over five minutes to win the game. The Mustangs took the ball down the field and a great run by Ayden Brown got the Mustangs close to scoring position, but an unfortunate and questionable holding call brought the ball back and another penalty was added which took the wind out of the sails of the Mustangs. When it was all said and done, the Yellow Jackets came out on top by the score of 16-20. It was a great game full of energy from start to finish. The Mustangs had a good season and were a force to reckon with all year; this was just one of those games you give all you got on the field and have nothing to hang your head about. The boys did a great job and they can be proud of their season. I’m sure they will be back next year ready to bring back the trophy.
