The Panthers closed the 2017-2018 wrestling season at the state finals in Huntington. A family of a few came together as one unit to support the two Panther wrestlers who fought hard all year to be the best.
Freshman Blake Sontos and Freshman Colton Casto both went toe to toe and came up short of the medals this year. Both of them had wins under their belts in the tournament and have felt the state finals pressure. Each have three years left on the high school mats, and as time moves on so will their skills, making them even tougher to beat. Who knows? Next year they may stand as champions in their weight classes. The coaches and team wanted to give a special thanks to all of those people who came in support this season. Whether it was social media or just sitting around the coffee table shooting the bull, the Clay County wrestling team wasn’t given much of a chance early in the season because of the small team. They wrestled as a team all year, and for those who doubt their abilities, just wait. The CCHS wrestling team will be at the top of the food chain soon as middle school wrestlers who have made their name on the mats join the team next season. With only one senior to move on, all the existing team will be back to battle it out in 2018-2019 season.
Congratulations to Blake and Colton on a fine wrestling season.
