The CCHS track team participated in the Region IV tournament at Hoover on Wednesday of this past week. Here is where the Panthers and Lady Panthers would try to qualify for the state finals to be held on Friday and Saturday, May 23 and 24.
The CCHS teams did not disappoint the fans. Region IV is one of the toughest regions in the state and has some of the finest track athletes. This tournament would pit the best in head to head events. All this season the CCHS track teams have given the fans their monies worth, and the CCHS shuttle hurdle teams, girls and boys, are some of the fastest hurdlers in the state.
The boys’ team – Justin Nida, Takota Quinn, Daymian Stricker and Evan Bass – have placed top of the heap in many events all season long. In this tournament, they placed second just behind Point Pleasant and qualified for the state tournament. The girls’ team – Jalynn Robinson, Jayda Woods, Lilli Langhorn and Jayda Stricker – ran the 102 meter hurdles. They were running well ahead in first place when the unthinkable happened and they suffered a fall. This set the Lady Panthers team back to 6th place. This is not to defame the Lady Panthers; unfortunately things happen and fate has a way of silencing dreams. These ladies never gave up all season, have won many events and in no way need to hang their heads.
The boys’ 4×200 team of Seth Robinson, Brody Scarbro, Daymian Stricker and Justin Nida made the state tournament by placing 4th as a wild card. The Lady Panthers 4×800 team also drew a wild card by placing 4th but didn’t get the green light to go on to the state meet. Congratulations to all the qualifiers, your dedication to the sport has been proven. I don’t believe in luck; I believe hard work and skill got you to this point, now go to the states and bring home some medals.
