It’s early in the 2019 football season, but the Clay County Panthers are out using the little time they have through the summer to play some 7 on 7. The scene was Nitro High School, eleven teams throughout the state and from Ohio took part in a 7 on 7 offense and defense practice to see what they might have to work on as well as to get the cob webs out of their system. The event was sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and at the end of the games, there was a skills challenge where each team would earn points.
It was a learning event but a fun one, as well. The Panther team looked pretty good on offense as well as defense. They caught the ball well, and the different quarterbacks had some pretty good accuracy. Of course, it is way early in the season, but as of now, the team looks to have speed and a lot of it. The whole team did not participate so early predictions are still up in the wind, but time will tell if the Panthers will come back this season to win or just have fun playing the game. There are some shoes to fill in the back field from last season, but from what I saw, there are some good prospects to do so.
The Clay Middle School Mustangs will also be under new management with new coach Shawn Krajeski taking the helm, and Brian Collins taking the offensive coordinator position. They will no doubt light a fire under the new Mustang team. With most of their line coming back this year, it could possibly be another banner year for the Mustangs. Football season is fast approaching, and the teams looks like they are ready to play, so get set football fans, the stadiums are warming up and the bands are ready to play. Get your schedules, it’s gonna be a good one.
