It was CCHS baseball on steroids this past week with the team in overdrive.
There was no dumpster diving for hits in either game, trying to just get a few morsels; it was fine dining. Richwood was first up to get the bitter taste of losing. The Panthers scattered 12 hits and scored 13 runs in a great display of hitting and good base running. The kick in the pants was a five run 7th inning that just took the wind out of the sails of Richwood. Matt Boggs went five innings in the game and was relieved by Colton Moore in the final two innings. Both pitched a great game. Matt had 10 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in five innings. Colton struck out three and allowed only one hit. Final score was Panthers 13, Lumberjacks 0.
The game against Calhoun was cancelled, and then it was time for the much anticipated game against Braxton County. It’s always a good game with plenty of action. This match up didn’t disappoint any fan unless you were an Eagle fan, obviously. The Panthers put Caleb Wynn on the hill to take down the mighty Eagles, and the pressure was on. The Panthers showed some good ball skills in the game, not making too many mistakes.
Caleb Wynn went the full gauntlet of seven innings and came through it without too many bruises. He allowed just eight hits, and they scored five runs. He was strong at the plate, as well, with three hits and scored five of the 13 runs due to some good base running. Corey Elswick had two hits with two RBI’s, Colton Moore also had two big hits with four RBI’s. Jack Edwards had two doubles and a single with four RBI’s. Simply put, the Panthers played good ball with few mistakes and came out with the win. The final score was Panthers 13, Eagles 5.
The Panthers will be in a rematch with the Eagles at home on Tuesday at 2:30. They will also be playing each evening this week, depending on the weather, so check your schedules. Go Panthers!
