The Panther baseball team has been on a decathlon of sorts this past week, playing 10 games in eight days.

The Panthers were on a nine game winning streak before the gas ran out of the tank on a game loaded week.  After beating Braxton County for the second time, they went head to head with the Hoover Huskies.  What a game it was for sure!  The Panthers sent Colton Moore to the mound, and he did a great job of containing the bats of Hoover, and never let them get too far ahead.  The game went back and forth, and the lead changed hand every inning.  The game played into the night, and when it was over, it was the Panthers in the winners’ circle with the final score Panthers 13, Huskies 10.  It was a great game to watch as both teams were pulling out all the stops.  This was a great win, but it was on to Calhoun where the Panthers had no mercy, knocking them out with wins of 7-6 and 10-0.

The next three games would be tough ones as Gilmer, Ravenswood, and Lewis counties, are all ranked in the region.  The Panthers on tired legs lost to Lewis County 4-7, Ravenswood 0-10 and Gilmer County 6-11.  They will begin a six team double elimination tournament this week.  They will be at home against Roane County Monday night and a win here will move them into a match between with Nicholas County at Nicholas County on Tuesday.  The Panthers are the number three seed in the tournament.  A loss on Monday will put them into the losers’ bracket, and they will have to play catch-up to get a chance to play for the championship.  Call the school and find out some results so you will know where to catch the next game.
