The Panther track team traveled to Doddridge County to participate in the LKC championships. The team has been in the running all year. This LKC event brought some of the best track talent in AA around the state. The Panthers have some runners and throwers that can burn up a track and jack a shot put or discus. Some of the Panthers will have an opportunity to compete in the Region IV championships at UC / Laidly Field in Charleston this Wednesday. The Region IV will determine who will go to the state championship; each runner or thrower has to reach a time as a runner or a mark as a thrower to be able to go.
The Panthers have some talent that will have a great chance to represent CCHS at this event. At the LKC Championship, the 4×800 girls relay team placed 6th overall. The team consisted of Bryonna Cantrell, Tonya Mangus, Michaela Share and Cierra Kent. Speedy Trevor Armes took 6th place in the championship 400 meter dash. The boys 4×200 meter relay team took 5th overall. The team consisted of Luke Young, Zach Dorsey, Robert Daniels, and Trevor Armes.
Five of the team members reached a personal record at the games. Caitlyn Murphy kicked out a 31.59 200 meter dash, Michael Rhodes heaved the shot put 37’ 9”, Cierra Kent smoked the low hurdles in a quick 1:01.69. Jasmine Sharp ran the 800 meter in 3:35.45, and Emily Butcher ran the 200 meters in 35.09. Congratulations to those who get out there and push themselves and their bodies to the limits. Good luck to the Panther team as they run for the gold at the Region IV championships.
