The CCMS wrestling team is back in the headlines. The Mustangs are on the mat and bringing their hunger to get back at the top of the food chain in the world of wrestling. The Mustangs took to the mats at the Summersville Quad held at the Old Main High School this past Thursday evening. Wrestlers from Summersville, Summersville B, Clay and Midland Trail competed in the event, and there was plenty of great wrestling to go around. The Mustangs hit the mat with some experienced wrestlers who just delivered a good ol’ fashion whip down and some who don’t have as much experience under their belts. They all brought guts and determination. When the mats cleared, the Mustangs went 2 and 1, losing a close match to Summersville A team but beating Summersville B and Midland Trail.
Next up was the LKC tournament at Wirt County on Saturday. This would be one of the toughest matches of the season so far with some of the best trained wrestlers. Overall, the Mustangs placed 5th as a team, and at the top of the food chain taking 1st place were Pierce Adkins and Caiden Bryant, placing 2nd was Matthew Neely and placing 4th was Andrew Tanner. Congratulations to these wrestlers and the team. The Mustangs will be back in action at Braxton in a Tri match on Wednesday evening at 6 PM. They have brought back the fire of the teams of old. The Mustangs will also be in action in Beckley this weekend; check the schedule for the time and place. The coach urges the fans to come out and support the team – they give no quarter and ask for none in return all the while welcoming you to the toughest sport on the floor.
In other wrestling news, the CCHS Panthers also took to the mats and once again dominated the floor beating Doddridge County 54-24 and Wahama 49-28. They will hit the mats once again this Saturday at the Bob Stover Classic held at CCHS. This event, named for one of the greatest coaching legends in West Virginia, is one of the best tournaments around. So, if you get the chance, head down to CCHS; you will be glad you did.
