The CCMS track team is in the news again and making waves in the track world. They competed this past Saturday in Roane County at the Walton Tiger Invitational. It was tough competition for the team as global warming took a back seat to winter as the wind turned the field into an Arctic landscape. Runners walked around looking like popsicles with blankets wrapped around them and huddled in groups like freezing cattle. It was not the best day for a run around the track, but these kids braved the cold and did what they had to do to survive the day. The ladies were able to hold their own being down some athletes due to the TSA competition. Natalie Tanner was a hurdling queen as she placed 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 200 meter hurdles. Dusty Duffield placed 4th in the 100 meter and Tara Conley placed 3rd in the 3200 meter. Victoria Conley was 4th in the discus, the 4×60 hurdle team placed 1st and the 4×100 relay team was 2nd.
The boys also had some stiff competition but the relay teams set a bar. The 4×200 team placed 2nd, the 4×400 placed 3rd, and the 4×800 placed 4th over all. Individually, Caleb Robinson was 5th in the 400 meter run, Scotty Childs was 5th in the 800 meter, Andrew Tanner was 4th in the 3200 and Cole Boggs was 5th in the 100 meter hurdles. The team placed 4th overall in the tournament doing a great job against much bigger schools and will no doubt continue their race to the end of the season. They will compete at Roane County again on Tuesday. They have very few meets left, so come out and support the teams. Go Mustangs!
