The Lady Mustang and Mustang basketball teams had a rough time on the hardwood this past week. The Lady Mustangs played a home game this past week against Braxton, and it would prove to be tough match for the Lady Mustangs. It was 8th grade night for the Lady Mustangs as parents and friends watched for the last time the 8th graders played a regular season game on home turf. In front of a nearly packed gymnasium, the Lady Mustangs went to work with their usual high intensity style of basketball. It was a brutal match between the two teams with both trying to get just enough points to win the game. Defense was the order of the night; girls were bouncing off the floor like the basketball they were dribbling, and a point was as hard to get as growing a gold tooth. When it was over, the Lady Mustangs couldn’t get the points needed to win as they lost the game 22-25.
The boys also hit the hardwood this past week against both Calhoun and Braxton. It was game on in each game, but the boys just couldn’t catch a break on the nets as both games went to the wire with photo finishes. Calhoun was up first, and the game went back and forth with both teams about even on the boards. In the end, it was Calhoun over the Mustangs 37-39. With that close loss, the boys were itching for a win as they took their show on the road to Braxton. It was another barn burner with two teams rolling for the nets.
When it was over the Mustangs just let the game get away from them and lost the match 34-39. Both the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs have great talent on their teams and can beat anybody out there, but voodoo seems to follow them late in the season. The season is coming to an end with just a couple more regular season games left before the championship.
On Tuesday night, the boys will play at home and it will be their 8th grade night as they host the tough Summersville team. Come out and support the teams as they draw the line and go toe to toe in hopes of championship games. Both of these teams have a chance at bringing the championship trophy home to CCMS. Go Mustangs!
