The Lady Panthers went 2 and 1 this week with wins against Calhoun and on the road at South Harrison. Both of these wins were solid – 73-23 Clay vs Calhoun and 57-22 Clay vs South Harrison. Their only loss this week was against the Nicholas County Lady Grizzlies. This game was a wild one, to say the least, with neither team gaining much of an advantage in the first half. At the end of the first half the score was 18-26 with the Lady Grizzlies on top by 8 points. In any high level intense game such as this, there will be calls not called and some calls called that just doesn’t go the way a person would like to see it. This game was no different; it was a tough game, very physical and demanding. It was anybody’s game. At the end of the clock it is whoever has the most hoops wins, and the Lady Panthers and the Lady Grizzlies were neck and neck at 37 all with 5:34 left in the game. As the game progressed, the Lady Grizzlies took a 45-40 lead with one minute left in the game. With nerves of steel, Katelyn Horrocks sunk three from the charity stripe and added another three from outside the ring. That was it, however. The Lady Panthers couldn’t shake the bad luck that hovered over them this game and went down 46-51. They will be at home to take on Gilmer this Thursday and Wirt County on Friday. The ladies are 10 and 3 and will no doubt turn this loss into something positive.
