The CCHS Lady Panthers softball team went through a tough ten-game stretch this past week.
They started the week off with a win and a loss against Valley. Then they went head to head with Doddridge and Nicholas in double headers and didn’t get any winning luck on their side of the diamond, losing to both teams. Capital was next up and the Lady Panthers got their groove on, defeating Capital the first game then losing the second. The last contest of the week was against a very good Webster County team. It was a feeding frenzy for the Lady Panthers. My guess is all the frustration of the other losses fueled the bats and turned them into buzz saws.
Alexis Williams fired from the mound in the first game and did a masterful job cleaning up hitters. The Lady Panthers scored six runs in the first inning on their way to a win. Webster managed one run in the first inning, but that was it. The Lady Panthers went on to win by the score of 15-1. This was a double header so the girls got busy in the second game, as well, and didn’t let the bats take a chill from the first game. Lydia Lynch had the hot bat with two home runs followed by Tailynn Varney with one.
The second game was nothing short of complete offense by both teams whose bats came alive on both sides of the field. However, it was the Lady Panthers who pulled out the win, scoring a whopping 22 runs in the game to Webster’s 13. If you like a hitting game, this was the one to attend. All in all, the girls didn’t do too bad going 4-6 on the week against some tough competition.
The Lady Panthers will finish regular season play this week with games lined up all week. Monday night will be at Glenville, Tuesday night will be a double header at Braxton and Wednesday night they are scheduled to be at Ravenswood. The Lady Panthers will play their LKC placement game at the end of the week, so if you get the chance, come out and support the team.
