The Lady Panthers pounded the courts this past week and had one more chance to keep the candle burning on the season. They took their game on the road to Charleston Catholic in the first game of the Sectional Tournament. In their last matchup in the regular season, the Lady Panthers did not fare too well against the shooting of the Lady Irish. This time would be no different; the Lady Panthers just couldn’t hold off the shooting pressure of Charleston Catholic. They just didn’t get enough clean looks at the hoop for some all purpose shots. At the buzzer, it was the Lady Panthers ending their season by the score of Clay 29, Charleston Catholic 50. This ends a tough season for the Lady Panthers, and now it’s time to regroup and make the 2024-2025 season a great comeback of the Lady Panthers.
The Mustangs also ended their season last week with a loss to South Harrison. They had to defeat the Hawks in the first round of the tournament to keep the fire burning. It was a tough road to travel against some of the strongest opponents that middle schools can put on the courts. However, as fate would have it, most of the first string was either sick or injured, but the team played on. South Harrison came out firing on all cylinders and racked up the points against the ill-laden Mustangs. The Mustangs couldn’t get a defense mounted to control their free shooting, and in the end, it was South Harrison winning with the score Mustangs 21, South Harrison 63. South Harrison went on to win the CWVAC tournament. There were some highlights though; Joel Elliott made All Conference as well as All Tournament. Devin Griffin received the All Conference Award.
With these games over, indoor sports for the CCMS teams have come to a close. The Panthers are still in the hunt and will play Charleston Catholic on Tuesday in a put up or go home game. The CCHS wrestling team will hit the mats at the State Tournament this weekend and try to bring home some individual state titles. Once all that is done and over with, the scent of fresh cut grass and raked dirt will once again be buried in the nostrils as baseball, softball and track heat up as spring is just around the corner. Hotdogs will be bubbling in the pot, and the chants will be echoing through the dugouts. Track shoes will be broke in as athletes prepare for a run for the gold. Try outs begin this week, and only time will tell who will have the opportunity to represent their school. Early predications looks like it should be a good spring season.
