The Lady Panthers were taking softball to a new level this past week as they doled out some good old-fashioned whipping on the diamond. First up was a double header against Braxton, and these games may as well have had a string of therapy buses lined up because the Lady Panthers were causing tears to run like a river. These girls came out bending aluminum and flattening softballs. Layla Parker and Brooklyn Morton were masterful from the mound as they pitched English the Lady Eagles couldn’t read. On offense, Parker was queen of the aluminum going 3 for 3 and driving in four runs in the game.
Every Lady Panther had a run at the score board knocking balls all over the field while the Lady Eagles looked like they were trying to catch rain. Brooklyn “Smokin’” Morton took the win for the Lady Panthers and didn’t let the Lady Eagles get a hit. She sent six of their hitters packing on strikeouts allowing no early Christmas presents. When the Lady Eagles had enough and softballs were headed to the return department, the refs called a cease fire and ended the carnage. The Lady Panthers won hands down 19-0.
The second game of the double header came and went just like the first one, except maybe just a little worse. Layla “Speedy” Parker got the win striking out four batters and allowing just one hit. The Lady Panthers hung out the wash winning by the score of 23-0. It was a perfect example of how to play softball.
In the third game of the week the Lady Panthers hosted the Lady Red Devils of Calhoun. This game would prove to be a little tougher as the Lady Red Devils brought Hades with them. However, the Lady Panthers were up to the task. Rylee “Professor” Murphy took to the hill to lead off the game. After doing a great job cleaning house, Brooklyn “Smokin” Morton finished off the Lady Red Devils and put out their fire. Emma Arnold, the only senior on the crew, showed what the Lady Panthers will be missing after she graduates. She sent a softball packing to right center field, and by the time the Lady Red Devils saw her blur, she was across the plate with an inside the park homer. The lead was in question most of the innings, but in the 5th inning the Lady Panthers scored seven runs on six hits and pretty much doused the flames of the Lady Red Devils.
The final score was Lady Panthers 11, Lady Red Devils 8.
