The Lady Mustangs kicked off the 2021 softball season with their bats smacking leather as they absolutely took their game to a new level. This season looks like it will be the year of the Mustang as they have already stomped three teams into softball dust this past week. New head coach Alicia Johnson and assistant coach Kacie Minger have whipped the Mustangs into a cream of the crop softball team. Their first game was against the Braxton Lady Knights, and what was to be a game of pulling teeth and biting nails ended up nothing short of a massacre. In three short innings, the Lady Mustangs crossed home plate 25 times defeating the Lady Knights 25- goose egg 0.
On the hill for the Lady Mustangs was the hard ball throwing Gracie Johnson who could teach a new language with the English she put on the ball. The Lady Knights just couldn’t figure out what was coming next. The Lady Mustang bats seemed to have minds of their own as the hits just kept coming; no matter what they pitched, the balls ended up in the outfield somewhere being chased. It was a great display of hitting by the Lady Mustangs as they schooled the Lady Knights in softball power. It was a great game to kick off the season.
Up next on the chopping block was Valley, and the Lady Mustangs continued their dominance and tightened the screws in their lineup. When the dust settled, the Lady Mustangs finished them off in two innings while crossing home plate 16 times. Valley just couldn’t answer the heat delivered by ace pitcher Gracie Johnston who gave new meaning to putting pepper on a meatball. The Lady Greyhounds didn’t know what hit them. By the end of the week of games, the Lady Mustangs should have collected two white towels from surrendering teams, but those teams insisted on getting educated. Now fired up and nearly unbeatable, the Lady Mustangs took on South Harrison Middle, and this game would go the distance. Yes, it went the distance with the same result – a Lady Mustang win. When the sun went down and the fans headed home, the Lady Mustangs got their third win of the season by beating South Harrison 13-3. The Lady Mustangs are well a well oiled softball machine and have set their sights on a softball championship. Go Lady Mustangs!
