To say the Lady Mustangs are taking the softball diamond by storm this season is an understatement.
The Lady Mustangs, now 8-1, have only been really tested by one team- Ravenswood. The Lady Mustangs were on the road in Braxton County and put Laila Varney on the hill once again to face the Lady Knights. The game was over before it started it seemed. Neither team made any progress in the 1st inning with neither team gaining an advantage until the 2nd inning. Then the beast was let out of the cage and the Lady Mustangs racked up five runs before cooling their heels. They went on to score six more in the game to defeat the Lady Knights 11-0. Varney had ice in her veins as she pitched a near perfect game, allowing just one hit and striking out 10. Getting the clubbing award was Madison Morton who went 2 for 2 in the game with 3 RBI’s and scoring three times. Rylee Burkhamer was 1-2 with a hit and 3 RBI’s. Brianna Adkins was 1-1 with 3 RBI’s. Laila Varney was 2-4 at the plate with 1 RBI. The Lady Mustang season is almost over as they have one more game before the CWVAC tournament held at Braxton. The Mustang baseball team was also at Braxton. At first, it looked like the ball game would be all Mustangs, but when mistakes appear, they dictate the outcome. It was a close game down to the end, but the Mustangs just couldn’t pull it out of their hat and lost by the score of 7-9. The boys’ last home game will be April 26th against Gilmer. Come out and support the teams.
