By Clay County High School Football Coach Jason Nichols
For the second time in as many weeks, the Panthers have taken on another one-loss team. The Roane County Raiders have only been beaten once this season, and they proved too much for our boys from Clay County. The final score was 45-0 in favor of Roane.
The Panthers have been hit by the injury bug, and we seem to be playing teams that are having great seasons. Through six games, CCHS opponents have a combined 25-7 record. The schedule doesn’t appear to get any easier as the next two opponents were playing members from the AAA division last season.
However, CCHS is still working hard, searching for the right combination of players and may have found some answers despite the recent losses. Junior QB Alex Grose completed 14 of 27 passes for 165 yards against a tough Raider defense. Senior WR Luke Young caught four passes for 98 yards and Junior WR Ryan Burdette caught six passes for 48 yards.
Despite the recent defeats, the Panthers have had some success recently coming out of halftime. Against 11th ranked Independence, Clay played them to a 14-14 game two weeks ago after the break. This week, the Panthers were only outscored 14-0 after two quarters.
Clay hopes to get back in the win column this weekend, as Lincoln County comes to Bradley Field on Friday, October 14.
Please come out and support these players, as they are doing all they can to bring a victory to Clay County.
