It was time to burn some sneakers Saturday as the Mustang boys and girls competed at Roane County. Six teams participated in the event with the very tough Point Pleasant track team in the house. It was a windy day, and runners were hit in the face with heavy wind gusts at one turn and wind aided in others. At least it wasn’t raining.
The Mustangs, as a whole team, came in second overall behind first place Point Pleasant. The Mustangs had some outstanding performances on both the Lady Mustang and the Mustang teams. Natalie Tanner once again proved she is the one to beat in the hurdles placing first in the 100 meter hurdles and, for her first time, she placed first in the high jump. This was quite a feat due to the fact she had never competed in the event before this meet.
Other stand outs were McKinley Mahan placing 1st in the 800 meter run and Marissa Atha killing it in the long distance placing first in both the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter runs. The 4×200 relay team placed 2nd, the 4×800 placed 1st and the 4×60 shuttle hurdles placed 1st, as well. Brooke Cliver placed 2nd overall in the shot put and 4th in the discus on her first meet of the season. The boys did a good job as well. Jackson Stricker set a new school record in the pole vault hitting 5’ 6”. The 4×200 relay team placed 2nd, the 4×400 was 3rd, the 4×800 also took 3rd and the 4×60 team took 2nd in the shuttle hurdles. Canaan Payton took 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles and Cole Boggs took 3rd in the 200 meter hurdles. Eli Hill was 2nd in the boys’ discus and Caleb Robinson was 3rd.
The Mustang track team is working hard to put CCMS track at the top of the food chain. They will be back in action at Roane on April 20. Go Mustangs!
