It was time to burn some sneakers last Tuesday evening at the Roane County track meet and again at the Lindsay Mann Memorial Invitational.

On Tuesday night, the boys’ team placed 1st overall while the girls got 3rd.  The boys were first in the 4×200 meter and the 4×400 meter relay races and came in second in most other events.  The girls had first place finishes in the 4×400 and the 4×800 relay races.

Sharina Ratliff took first in the 800 meter run and Katie Payne in the shot put. The CCHS track team went to the meet with one of the best teams yet mustered.  Saturday was the Lindsay Mann Memorial Invitational.  The boys still were on the top of the food chain with a 2nd place finish, while the girls once again backed up a strong 3rd place finish. Sharina Ratliff, Katie Payne and the 4×400, and 4×800 relay teams placed first. Nate Canfield took first in the 400 meter run, and the boys 4×200, 4×400 and the 4×800 teams took first place.

The Panther track team is working hard to put CCHS track back on the map in Clay County.  Track is a tough sport; if you don’t think so, run from the couch to the refrigerator and back in under 15 minutes but keep an oxygen bottle close. Go Panthers!
