The CCHS cross country team had two meets this past week–the Beckley Chick-Fil-A Invitational and the Charles Pointe- Indian Run Invitational at Bridgeport. The teamhas been setting the woods on fire, so to speak. They have been running the hills and the valleys and putting Clay on the map as far as extreme sports. Cross Country isn’t just track and field but an extreme show of guts and determination. Trevor Armes, ranked 41st in the state, medaled at Beckley and came in 8th place. The boys’ team took 5th overall. Armes also came in 31st at Bridgeport. The girls ran well in both events,as well. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will only get better as the season goes on. This Tuesday, they travel to Westside High School, and it will be a good event for the team with a lot of regional action with 11 teams competing. Coach Ronald Starcher has pretty high hopes that some of the runners have more than a good chance of making it to the state meet, but they have to place at the regional level, a tough feat indeed. It has been a pretty good season so far for the team, and they will only get better now that they have been established as a force in the extreme sports world. If you get the chance, come out and watch pure grit and strength of mind in action.
