Clay County High School Athletic Hall of Fame held its first ever induction of the 2016 class on Saturday, September 17, in the Clay County High School Auditorium.
The inaugural class includes Robert Clay Pugh, a member of the first football team at Clay High School; Hazel Shearer, who revived the Clay County High girls basketball team in 1971; Ron Sirk, who played football at CCHS and graduated in 1964 and later returned to coach; Laverne “Bunny” Taylor, a three-time first team all-state basketball player at CCHS in 1978, 1979 and 1980; and Eric Workman, a first team all-state baseball player at CCHS who graduated in 2004 and became a State Police officer who died in the line of duty.
The Hall of Fame Board consists of Larry Gillespie; president; Jerry Linkinoggor, vice president; Greg Gency, secretary; John Coulter, treasurer; Buck Davis, Mary Ramsey, Bobby Stover and Bunny Taylor.
