This past Saturday, Clay County High School was the meeting place for 12 wrestling teams from the Little Kanawha Conference.
It was Clay County’s turn to host the event, and it had been a long time since it was last held here. Braxton, Wirt, Roane, Clay, Ritchie, Williamstown, Calhoun, Tyler Consolidated, St. Mary’s, Ravenswood, Webster, and Doddridge wrestling teams participated in an event that would showcase some of the best wrestlers in the state.
When it was over, Braxton County was on top with a score of 192; second place was Wirt with 158.5, and third was Roane with 119 points. The Panther team placed sixth with 66 points. The Panthers also had two LKC Champions with Ryan Stewart and Joel Cruickshank and two fourth place finishes with Jacob Miklos and Blake
Belcher. Congratulations to these wrestlers.
With the LKC tournament in the history books, the Region II tournament is just around the corner on Feb. 17. The top four wrestlers in each weight bracket will advance to the state competition. The Panthers have a decent chance to send at least four to the state competition.
Good Luck Panthers!
