Elk River Boxing Club and Elk River MMA were back in action on Saturday night, October 8.  While Elk River MMA traveled to Beckley to participate in Ruckus in the Cage, Elk River Boxing Club sponsored an event, Judgment Day, in Clendenin.
Judgment Day contained 11 action packed bouts including two of the Elk River Boxing Club athletes, Alex Nidy, of Clendenin, and Chris Stephens, of Clay. Nidy competed in his debut fight against Ramil Islmov, of Pittsburgh, PA, which resulted in a stoppage in the third round.
Stephens competed for the 178 lb. ERBC Novice title against Ladre Stallsworth, of Welch, and won by unanimous decision. The event was a wonderful success and included a welcome speech from Clendenin’s Mayor Gary Bledsoe.
Elk River MMA was also successful in Beckley, featuring fighters Eric “Logan” Jackson, William “Blake” Whittington, and Tyler Harper, all of whom reside in Clendenin. Whittington was caught in a submission move in the third round and was forced to tap. Harper competed all three rounds and lost by decision. Jackson won his fight bringing his record to 4-0.
Elk River Boxing Club and Elk River MMA is extremely proud of all the hard work that all of their competitors have put in and look forward to getting in the ring and cage again very soon.
