If you missed it, you missed one of the best football games of the season when the B team Panthers went to war with Tyler County at the new Little League football stadium in Sutton. It was an all out defensive struggle between two teams equal in grit and determination to win. A win here would advance the winning team to the Championship game held at St. Mary’s on Sunday. When I say defensive, I mean defensive; the hitting sounded more like a demolition derby. Both lines dug in and there was hardly any advancement on either offense. However, it was early on when Zane Minger bust through some holes the line opened up and with some fancy footwork drew first blood with the first TD of the game. Tyler County came right back and answered that one with one of their own tying the ball game at 6 each. There was some advancement by the B-team Panthers, and they almost added one more TD before the half before time ran out. The game was dead even in the second half with both defenses stopping any offensive movement. The game ended in a tie, and it had to be broken. Each team had a chance from 10 yards out to get a score with four downs. The B-team Panthers scored 6 more points on a quarter back sneak up the middle, then it was Tyler County’s turn. The Panther defense held strong. With the game at stake, the Panthers caused a fumble and recovered it as well, winning the game. The B team Panthers will advance to the Championship game on Sunday at 2:30 pm. Congratulations to the B team on an outstanding win and Clay County wishes you all the best in the championship. Go and bring home the trophy!
