It’s been tough to get all the games in due to the rain this past week, but some games were able to be played.
Clay County High School track was also cancelled late in the meet due to lightning. However, it was the Panthers rolling at this meet. They ended up in eighth place due to not getting to run the last three events. If they had, the Panther relay teams would have swept the competition and scored big.
In spite of everything, the team did quite well against other teams. Trevor Armes once again dominated the 400 meter with the time of 52.13 seconds. The 4×200 relay team, consisting of Zach Wynn, Nate Canfield, Reece Nichols and Trevor Armes, took second place. Ryan Burdette took fifth in the hurdles and Brandon Daniels took sixth in the 1,600 meter run.
The second track meet was a one man show due to most of the team being at TSA competition. Armes was going for the high point trophy and just missed it scoring 26 points on his own. He was first in the 400 m, second in the 200 m, third in the 100 m and fifth in the 800 m run. The track team will be back in action at the Constellium Invitational at Ripley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
When they are not getting rained out, the CCHS Lady Panther softball team is on a roll. They are currently 6-1, outscoring their opponents 67-18 in their first seven games.
The Ladies will be at Calhoun County on Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m.
The Panther baseball team ran into a little trouble this week and got slapped around by Poca, losing 1-16, and losing to Nicholas County 5-10. It was difficult to get games in last week, and with the weather this week, it doesn’t look good for outdoor sports. Check with the school to see if the games are on schedule before going out; you might get to see some action if the rain holds off.
The CCMS Mustangs are scheduled to have four games this week. They have had a tough time getting some playing time, as well. They have two games at home starting with George Washington on Monday and Guyan Valley on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The CCMS Lady Mustangs will be at home on April 6 playing against Valley Fayette. It will be a long week for sports if it rains as much as the forecasters say, but if you get the chance get out and catch a game.
