The Clay county Board of Education met Monday, October 21, 2013 at their administrative office. The prior agenda and minutes from the previous meeting were approved. Dale Lee, President of The West Virginia Education Association (WVEA), was placed on the next agenda for the Board of Education. Lee is advocating better pay for teachers. West Virginia ranks 48th in the nation for educator compensation.
Two transfers were approved; Stephen Butler from bus #21 to bus #54. This was Dan Sizemore’s former position and became effective October, 14, 2013 and Jonathan Rogers from bus #47 to bus #21 to take Stephen Butler’s former route, effective October 22, 2013.
The employment of Mike Evans as a bus operator/truck driver and handy man was bid successfully. He fills Paul Edwards’s former position.
Brian Legg’s and Bradley Adkins’ employment has been approved following the completion of their certification. The two will be bus operators.
Rodney Alshire’s transfer from 5th grade teacher at Clay elementary to 3rd grade teacher at H.E. White Elementary was approved to fill Joanne Nine’s former seat. Alshire also resigned as assistant track coach at Clay County High School, effective immediately.
The approval for Jared Fitzwater as after school science teacher was rescinded and Jared Fitzwater was approved as substitute teacher for the afterschool. Gina Thomas will be the new after school science teacher in Fitzwater’s stead.
