The board of education meeting was lengthy Monday night. The board was in executive session for two hours discussing personnel items.
The action items on the agenda were as follows: approve the resignation of Virginia McCormick as teacher at Clay County High School, effective immediately. Tony Salisbury resigned/retired as bus operator, which will be effective December 31, 2016. Angela Nichols resigned as assistant softball coach at Clay Middle School, effective immediately. Amber Bass resigned as a volunteer substitute cook, effective immediately. Trey Crowell was approved to reassign from math teacher at a Clay High School to business teacher at Clay High School, effective immediately. This was Virginia McCormick’s former position.
Jessica Detamore was approved to be a math teacher at Clay High, pending certification; this position was Carlee Scott’s former position. Sarah Workman was approved as long-term substitute at Clay Elementary, effective August 29, 2016, pending certification. Ali Haverty was approved as long-term substitute at Clay Elementary, effective August 29, 2016, pending certification. Jamela Krajeksi was approved for employment as school curriculum specialist at Clay Elementary, new position. Michelle Paxton was approved for employment as attendance director/administrative assistant to the superintendent, new position.
Tina Burnette was approved for employment as nutrition director/administrative assistant to the superintendent, new position. April Dawson was approved for employment as secretary II at Clay Middle, Valerie Browns former position. Michael Barss was approved for employment as school bus operator instructor/substitute service personnel “call out” coordinator for Clay County Schools, effective immediately, new position. Virginia McCormick was approved to be a substitute teacher. Carlee C. Blake was approved as substitute teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. Rick Hannah and Donna Beckett were approved as substitute bus operators, pending certification and drug testing.
Clay FFA students and chaperones were approved for their out-of-state/overnight trip to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN, on October 18-32, 2016. The trip expenses will be in the amount of $2,009. The final action item was to approve the purchase of three school buses in the amount of $283,414.
The morning after the school board meeting, word came to the public ear that Superintendent Kenneth Tanner will be resigning from his position effective the end of December 2016.
