The American Lung Association in West Virginia is sponsoring the 2013 Respiratory Rally, a one-day conference for lung disease patients, caregivers and supporters, on Tuesday, October 29 at CAMC’s Heart Fit Center located on 3200 Chesterfield Ave. in Charleston. The rally will start at 9 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.
The theme of the rally, again this year, is, Hall-O-Wheeze. Patients, supporters, vendors and volunteers are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes and decorate their booth spaces and respiratory equipment. The rally’s goal is to provide an exchange of information for those affected by lung disease so they can gain the tools necessary to improve daily living. Short presentations will be offered on topics such as, eating right, Tai-Chi stretching and, advocacy issues. Numerous free health screenings will be provided throughout the day as well, through the generosity of the University of Charleston’s School of Pharmacy.
Lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. and includes asthma, COPD, lung cancer and a host of other respiratory disease. The event is free for patients and caregivers. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day and grand prizes will be given for the best costume and best decorated equipment. Through generous donations from our funders, breakfast and lunch will be provided. To register, contact Christine Compton at (304) 342-6600 ext. 20 or at ccompton@lunginfo.org.
