The 2016 Environmental Awards were presented during a special ceremony on Monday, May 16 at the DEP’s Kanawha City headquarters in the Cooper’s Rock conference room at 1:30 pm.. The awards honored the environmental stewardship, conservation, or community involvement of 19 organizations and individuals from across West Virginia. Ed Hamrick, of the Buffalo Creek Watershed in Clay County received the Cabinet Secretary Award.
Awards were presented in the following categories: Clean Energy, Education and Community Involvement, Environmental Partnership, Environmental Stewardship, Improvement to Air Quality, Land Revitalization, Land-use Development, Municipal Storm-water, Outstanding Litter Control, Sewage Treatment, and Water Conservation.
