President Jerry Stover called the meeting to order. The minutes of the last meeting (Aug. 5) were read and approved. Sandra gave the treasurer’s report.
President’s Report:

- Jerry showed the original copy for the Hickory and Lady Slippers issue on Winden. With it was the list of all the train stops on the BC&G Railroad from Dundon to Winden.
Committee Reports: Now and Then
- Eloise reported that the fall newsletter had been received by the printer, after several days’ delay in postal delivery between West Charleston and South Charleston.
- The following books were given to our library: A Guide to Copyrights and Contracts, You Can Write Your Own Family History, Tribulation of Sarah Ann Legg (by Mark Samples), and two copies of Doctor Dan, a true story of a Nicholas County physician.
- Eloise mentioned names of five society members who have passed away within the last year: Sara Mollohan Huffman, Christine Moore Beaver, Reba Samples Engle, Arlene Estep Munson, and Maxine Johnson Bersch. Information about these persons will be included in the next newsletter (winter issue).
Old Business:
- Dates printed on mailing labels: Sandra and Jeanie met with Ronnie Hamrick about positioning the dates printed on the label to distinguish the members due date from the date the newsletter is mailed.
- Sandra reported that they are “cleaning up” the membership file, noting whether members were still paying membership dues. They will write letters to delinquent members to see whether they want to continue to be a member.
- The Historical Society website: Quincy announced that she has a friend who can set up websites. A motion was made and approved that we have this person set up a news website or amend the website that Danny Dawson had made.
News Business:
- Quote from Quincy: “We have the technology; we should use it.” A motion was made approved that we set up a PayPal account for the Facebook page and website.
The next meeting will be held on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m., the location is to be announced.
