The bible says we need to be slow to anger. We need to be able to stay in control of our emotions. The bible tells us that one fruit of the spirit is temperance or self-control. Anger is everywhere!
We see it at work, in the schools, and on the road. Anger is not reserved for the world only. It can be found even in the church! Sinful anger can be defined as an emotion that moves one to speak, act or think in a way that is sinful. We choose how we will respond to our circumstances and the situation that may anger us. Sometimes people may get wrong attitudes. Sometimes they do not even realize that they have a wrong attitude until they sit under the preaching of God’s word. We do not have to blow our stack or make a fool of ourselves. Some people have an unpleasant personality. Have you even met someone who had a personality like a grizzly bear? If you have a personality like that, God can help you.
We control more than we think. How do I know this? Here is an example: the preacher calls your home to let you know you are in his prayers and you are being thought of. But you answer the phone and you answer with an angry tone because of the seemingly hundreds of telemarketing calls you have been receiving, or because of frustration with your spouse or children. Instantly upon hearing the preacher’s voice, the angry frustrating tone turns to the sweet soft and pleasant voice you use at church. We have more control over our anger than we would like to admit. Sadly, we know with whom we can blow up at and get away with being at our worst. Have you ever met someone who had a personality like a grizzly bear? If you have a personality like that, God can help you. Friend, let’s make a conscious effort to show our very best to everyone with whom we come in contact.
God himself may even be perplexed at times over how we can point fingers at one another and blame each other for our sinful attitudes, while taking no responsibility for ourselves. Remember, we need not jump into the cesspool to see that it stinks. It seems today that everything must be a God except for the God which is most clearly seen in the heavens and the earth and everything in them. You cannot live wrong and die right.
