Dear Editor:
On June 25, 2015, the United States Supreme Court once again upheld the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). This law has helped 16 million Americans and about 180,000 West Virginians gain health care coverage.
The Court upheld a key part of the law that provides help with the cost of health insurance. In West Virginia, 26,000 people receive an average of $314 of premium help to purchase coverage. This help not only makes insurance affordable for hard-working West Virginians but also adds almost $100 million to our economy which creates new jobs and business activity.
People can continue to enroll in coverage through healthcare.gov during open enrollment season or whenever they have a life-changing event, such as job loss, marriage, divorce or other change in income. People who qualify for Medicaid can enroll year-round. The next open enrollment period is November 1, 2015 through January 31, 2016. For information about who can help you in your area, go to www.bewv.wvinsurance.gov and click on Local Help.
