The enemy knows our weaknesses and knows how to attack. surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the nolsome pestilence. Psalm 91:3.
What an illustration we find in this passage. It causes the mind to ponder the many ways in which the fowler attempts to catch his birds. In this passage, the fowler symbolizes Satan, and the tools he uses to destroy people’s souls. The attack is personal. He is after you. He lies in wait, creeping along your life’s path, waiting for you to veer to the left or right so you might fall into one of his snares. What should we look for? How are the snares of the fowler used? First, the snare is often covered, hidden, polished, or even shiny to make one think it looks good. Be careful of the little things you allow into your life. The little foxes spoil our vines, for our vines have tender grapes. Solomon’s Song, 2:15.
Second, the enemy adapts his trap to prey just as the fowler adapts his bait to the bird. Next, the snare will often be attached to some pleasure, profit, or advantage you desire or hope for in life. Satan, the fowler leads one astray with the bait that conceals the hook, and later causes extreme pain.
Finally, when nothing else works, the fowler will go hawking after his prey. He will use those who may lie about you or tear you down. When the hawk is after you, do as the little birds do, and fly up. Rise above the hawk, and rise above the lies and slander. It is the ripest fruit that is most pecked at by the birds. If you are not being pecked at now, then it is probably because you’re not bearing any fruit. The enemy knows our weaknesses and knows how to attack. But praise God, for surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler.
