We have been talking about how the Holy Spirit works. The most important thing that the Holy Spirit does is that He Glorifies Christ. In some Christian circles, there is more emphases placed on the Holy Spirit than on Christ Himself. John 16:14, “He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.”
The Lord Jesus did not come glorifying Himself, nor did He glorify Himself while He was in the world. He came in complete humility and submission to the will of the Father and humble before the world. Philippians 2:7, “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”
The Holy Spirit came after Jesus’ return to glory, and through the mouth of His prophets and teachers speaks of the glory of Christ. He inspired the writers of the New Testament to speak of His wondrous works while here on earth and of the final work of redemption through the sacrifice of Himself.
He inspired them to write of His great Priestly work for the saints as He remains constantly in the Most Holy Place in heaven with His own precious shed blood on the Mercy Seat.
He inspired them to write of His promise to return and receive His own into His presence and glory. He inspired them to write of the coming kingdom where Christ Himself will be crowned King of kings and Lord of lords; when every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that He is LORD to the glory of the Father.
The Holy Ghost is doing a great work today in the world by, and through the word of God and the saints of God. All of the work of the Holy Spirit is for the glory of Christ Himself and to the gory of the Lord’s churches. Christ’s glory is shown forth in the grandest way by His true churches: Ephesians 3:21, Unto him [God] be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Allow me to reiterate one point which we covered previously: the Holy Spirit Abides in every believer. If you have been born again you never have to seek the Holy Ghost, He abides in you now, and will abide in you for ever. You can never lose the Holy Ghost; for He has promised that He would never leave you nor forsake you. John 14:16-17, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” We are made alive; Romans 8:10 “And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness.” We are given hope of the future; Romans 15:13,
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” We are given inner joy and peace; Romans 14:17, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” What a great God we have!
