Politics. Last night as did many of you I watched the President of the United States give his annual state of the Union address. This morning when I got up and turned on the news I heard a political battle going on. One side was saying basically “amen” and the other side was saying “no way.”
Our Constitution says that we are “one nation under God.” It seems as though many of our leaders in Washington have missed that part of our Constitution. If we are one nation under God then we should be striving to walk in agreement as to the direction we are going. Whoever comes up with the wisest or best solution to a problem should be applauded by the rest and supported accordingly. The Bible says ( Mt 12:25) And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:. Jesus repeated that statement in Mark and also in Luke.
I don’t think I have ever heard such bitterness and hate coming from our leaders. They have aligned themselves politically above the needs of our nation. Regardless which political party is in the majority it is the will and need of the people that should come first. If I were going to undergo surgery for a heart problem; I don’t care if the surgeon is black, white, Hispanic, republican, democrat or independent. I just want the best and most qualified on the job. That’s just common sense which seems to be hard to find in the halls of Congress.
This morning as I listened to the news media summarizing what was said, facts were ignored, opinions (like hot air balloons) filled the airways. I registered to vote and remained in that party for about 45 years. I got to listening to the leaders (so called) and decided to change parties and became a member of the other party. I listened to them a little while and decided that wasn’t for me either. Then I became an independent and started listening a little closer to all of them. Each party has some good leaders and some good ideas but they are always opposed by the other party. Why? Politics. Whether that particular party’s train is running on greed, quest for power or self esteem I don’t know.
I said all of that for this reason. We need to pray for our leaders. The Bible says (1Ti 2:1) “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” Paul exhorted Timothy to pray for all those in authority. Today, that would include the President, Governor, Senators and Representatives. It includes Pastors, Judges and so forth. Our nation needs it. Pray!
Maranatha!
