Jas 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
We all have one. It gets us into trouble again and again. t is fed by our thoughts and will repeat anything our brain releases. We can’t tame it because it can’t be tamed. It is like a wild and ferocious lion. It will attack and it will kill. You can’t tame it. You can, however, put it in its place and contain it, but, you can’t tame it. Did you notice? Your tongue is in a very special place. It is surrounded by teeth. If you keep your mouth shut, the tongue has a hard time causing trouble.
Where does the tongue get its poison? It gets it from our thoughts. When we think evil, our tongue releases the evil it has been given. If we think thoughts that are pure, that is what the tongue will release. We can’t tame the tongue but we can be careful what we feed it. Philippians 4:8 gives us some wonderful advice or wisdom. Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
If you are a Christian, the Bible says you have the mind of Christ. 1Co 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. You may have a computer on your desk. But, if you never turn it on it doesn’t help you. If you don’t put anything in it, you can’t expect it to give you what you want or need. You might have a wonderful ability in the area of music. You may have a very good sense of timing and a wonderful ear for sensitivity to pitch. However, if you never sing, pick up a guitar or sit down at a piano it may do you no good.
The mind of Christ must be fed to properly work. It must be fed the Word of God on a regular basis. You can’t just feed it a cold snack ever once in a while and expect it to benefit you like it is designed to do.
If you have a computer and record a disk filling it with garbage, guess what it is going to give back to you? When you play the disk all you will hear is garbage. You can’t tame your computer but you can control what you put into it. Wisdom only works when properly applied.
