Time to Pray
By: Pastor/Teacher James R. Paxton
We are living at a critical time in the history of our nation. We have lost our bearing as a nation ordained of God. Morality is plunging downward. It seems that everything that this nation is built upon is under attack by the very ones who has perhaps benefited the most. The God that watches over us has been slapped in the face by intellectual fools. Not only will God remember, He most assuredly will judge.
With the political winds that are blowing in radical change we need to pray for those who will soon take the reins. Good intentions do not always provide good results. High expectations do not always fulfill dreams. Often promises made are not promises fulfilled.
Take for example the office of Sheriff. Facing liberal courts, shrinking financial support, increasing drug use and thievery ever on the increase; the task of the new office holder is monumental. The expectations of him are as great and possibly even greater than the picture he painted when seeking the office. He needs your prayer.
Here in West Virginia, with the attack on coal and the loss of revenue so great, every office is under a heavy load to maintain or increase the standard that is needed or expected by the people.
New laws seem to obligate rather than liberate. Our higher courts have lost their way and try to legislate rather than interpret the law. All too often the White House chooses to ignore the law and trample our Constitution under foot.
Liberals say “ban the Bible, forbid prayer, honor the perverts and zero in on being politically correct. We favor war but don’t go too far for if we win it will hurt our image around the world” Politicians focus on re-election while our nation is crumbling on the inside. Preachers are leaving the pulpit while the criminals are playing the system. Lawyers line up willing to initiate a lawsuit over a hot cup of coffee. I could go on and on but the question is: is there hope? YES!
Our hope is in the Holy Bible. If we will return to God and His standard for us then He will heal our land. There must be soul-searching repentance and heart-felt prayer. When love replaces lust and giving puts greed under foot and morality regains its place in our culture, then, God will restore what we have lost. It happens one heart at a time and not in the voting booth. Instead of rioting we need revival. God help us. It’s time to pray.
Maranatha!
