The Holy Bible has quite a reputation. Opinions of this precious book seems to be endless. To some, it is merely the book Grandma always read. To others it is where to find the family tree. To some it is the center piece on the coffee table. The devil has tried to destroy it, unsuccessfully. Much blood has been spilled to preserve it’s contents and integrity. It is ignored by some, misquoted by others and often applied out of context.
So what is the Holy Bible anyway? It is a collection of 66 books written over many centuries to reveal to mankind who God is. When I say God, I am talking about the creator of the universe. I am speaking of the Almighty God Jehovah who sent His Son Jesus to die for us that we would not have to be condemned to hell for eternity.
Many look upon the Bible (Old Testament) as a story about Israel. Israel is certainly a main player but it is really about the God of Israel and how He dealt with Israel in many different situations.
The Bible is like the owners manual in a car. It is the instruction book on how to live a victorious life. It reveals how to deal with opposition, blessings and just about every thing we need guidance on. It is a book of love in which God demonstrates over and over His endless love for humanity.
The Bible speaks of eternity, heaven and hell. It speaks of judgment and eternal life. The Bible contains around 3000 promises and how they are attained and to whom they are meant to bless and prosper. The Bible speaks of sin and its consequences. Truly, it is a Holy Bible written and inspired by a Holy God for a holy people. The Bible is an invitation to an intimate relationship with God and warnings of judgment to those who fail to live by it’s standards.
Many prefer the King James Version of the Bible which is the oldest English translation. Originally the Bible was written in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic followed by Latin, German, etc. The King James Version was not written until 1611. Now, there are multitudes of languages into which the Bible has been interpreted. Many different English versions exist. It is the most important book you will ever read or possess. God’s word is eternal and He never changes. The Bible is scientifically accurate, historically correct, morally indispensable and its wisdom priceless. It will speak to you, guide you, perhaps condemn you and identify you. God loves you and wants to show you how much through His Word, the Holy Bible. Ignore it and perish or embrace it and live.
