We’ve heard that phrase about all of our lives and it has been applied to just about any situation you could name. But what is it anyway? First of all in these days in which we live I think it is a treasure that has slipped away and largely been forgotten. From what I see common sense is not common after all.
In days gone by it was a tremendous tool of survival. Most had not been to college and perhaps even high school. Many could not read and write but they knew how to deal with things that came up. Living within their means was an example. If you couldn’t afford it, walk away from it. If you needed it, work out a plan where you could have it without jeopardizing yourself.
Surely our government in Washington D.C. has no idea of what I am talking about. Lots of lip service but not much public service. All sorts of programs but very little help. When it comes to taxes they demand more and do less.
If our government in Washington used some common sense, they wouldn’t give millions of dollars to our enemies. If our government had some common sense we wouldn’t send our soldiers to other countries to fight and die without the ultimatum to WIN. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan is saturated with a lot of American blood. What a cost to be “politically correct”. You cannot buy friends. You cannot buy respect. When America stood its ground regardless of what the world thought and at whatever cost, we had respect. We earned it! Things have sure changed.
Every time you see a clip of what is going on in the Senate or House of Representatives, many seats are empty. Why? Those empty seats represent elected officials who are more interested in private selfish ambitions instead of representing their constituency. Often time bills are voted on when the ones voting haven’t even read the legislation. Obama Care is just a glaring example. “We need to pass it and then see what’s in it” was the cry. That came from one of the “intellectual fools” leading us down the road to destruction.
Common sense means to logically think things through including the cost. The cost is much more than the dollar. Who will it help? What will be the benefit? Will it be worth it? Who pays the bill? Is it the right thing to do?
Proverbs 15:2 says “The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness”. Prv. 16:2 ¶ All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. We need to pray for our nation and for its leadership or lack thereof. We must get back to the biblical principles that our nation is founded upon or our nation will continue to crumble as other great nations before us. God is watching, listing and waiting.
Maranatha!
