William “Denver” Canfield, 84, of Birch River, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. Denver was born January 15, 1934. He is affectionately remembered as “The Mayor.”
Denver was born and raised in Birch River, the son of the late, Curtis Edward and Maggie Mollohan Canfield. Also preceding him in death was his child, Bambi Canfield; siblings, Ira, Virginia Tiney, Eloise Tiney, Roger Canfield, Jink Canfield.
In his early years, Denver was a proud Army Veteran, who served his country in the Korean War. After serving with the Army, Denver worked as an auto worker for Chevrolet / General Motors until his retirement.
Denver had a passion for his family, friends, reading, biscuits, baseball and animals. He loved to play cards and he loved his home state of West Virginia. He was one of the most generous souls who never met a stranger or forgot a birthday. He was known for helping anyone he came into contact with, and always had a good joke ready. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Denver leaves behind his wife, Geraldine (Westfall) Canfield of 60 years; sons, William “Billy” Canfield, Douglas Canfield, Mark Canfield and wife, Terri (Wildrick) Canfield, Glen Canfield and wife, Jody Canfield; siblings, Flossie Spinks, Cornia Drosnos, Sandra Kay Sims, Alan Canfield, David Canfield; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many close friends.
Visitation was held March 3, 2018, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton, West Virginia, with burial proceeding directly after at Cox Cemetery, Polemic Run Road, Birch River, West Virginia.
