Clay–William Byrne Neff, 86, of Clay, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at his home. He was the son of the late Squire and Ally Alice Nottingham Neff and was born at Clay on December 15, 1929. He was a coal miner and a Nazarene by faith.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter Melonda Ann Neff.
Surviving are the mother of his children, Virginia Ruth Neff; two sons, William Ballard Neff of Birch River and James Squire Neff of Clay; three daughters, Virginia Sue Lane of Summersville, and Gloria Jean Neff Young and Shawna Ruth Hassell, both of Elizabeth City, NC; brother Lacie Neff of Clay; two sisters, Nina Mae “Tootsie” Neff of Sutton and Cora Bell Neff of Summersville; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016, in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Pastor Danny Richardson officiating. Burial followed in the Sattler Cemetery at Clay. Friends called at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service on Monday.
