Wanda Jane (Pierson) Longacre, 85, of Charleston, passed away on September 24, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born on July 17, 1930 in Procious, Clay County, West Virginia. She was one of 14 children born to Walter and Anna (Legg) Pierson. A 1948 graduate of Clay County High School, Wanda earned her degree in education from Morris Harvey College, Charleston. She began her 38 year teaching career in a one-room school in Elkhurst, West Virginia. Wanda was a long-time resident of Webster Springs, West Virginia, which she called home.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Glenn V. Longacre, Jr., her parents, and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Tonia L. Chismar; son-in-law, Dennis Chismar (Castle Rock, Colorado); and granddaughter, Claire Oliver (Charleston). Son, Glenn V. Longacre, III, and granddaughter, Madeline N. Longacre (Plainfield, Illinois); and sisters Katherine Davis (St. Albans), and Melinda Pierson (Clendenin). Wanda will especially be missed by her devoted friend, Encil Bailey, (Charleston).
Three separate memorial services will be announced in the near future for Edgewood Summit retirement community, friends and family in the greater Charleston area, and in Webster Springs.
