Vernal Bair Taylor, 89, of Bickmore, born September 30, 1934, went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gearold Leon “Brud” Taylor; parents, Morgan and Mary Ursula Fitzwater; siblings Ceril, Edsel, Creed, Carmel, Ermel; and step-grandson Seth Kirk.
Surviving children are Gearold (Debbie) Taylor, Timmy (Stephanie) Taylor, Toby Taylor, Bunny Taylor, and Jo (Woody) Carver; and her pride and joys, her grandchildren Elizabeth (Rick) Clay, Juston (Shawna) Taylor, Ashley (Shane) Morton, Kacie (Micheal) Minger, Tiffany (Jesse) Norton, Andrew (Carol) Taylor, Sierra (Philip) Backus, Storm (Emily) Carver; step-grandchildren Sara Williams and Rachel Whelling; great-grandchildren Haidyn Morton (Ryan Shamblin), Aiden Taylor, Ivy Taylor, Ava Taylor, Elijah Morton, Zane Minger, Garrett Taylor, Xander Bernardo, Zaiah Minger, Raylee Backus, and Kallie Backus; and great-great-grandson Cayson Shamblin; and ex daughter-in-laws Teresa Carper and Patrica Blackwell.
Vernal was an active member of Fola Missionary Baptist Church, she was an amazing Christian example to her family and friends. She had a desire to see everyone saved, she was a prayer warrior with strong faith. Often telling her kids and grandkids there is power in prayer. Family gatherings and singing were some of her many joys in life. Vernal retired from Clay County Schools as Head Cook in 1998 and being named Cook of the Year was one of her many achievements. Vernal was well known for her macaroni salad, syrup, and biscuits. Her grandkids favorites! You never left Vernal’s house hungry or without a snack to go.
Visitation was held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson Smith Funeral Home where we celebrated her life. Funeral services were held at Fola Missionary Baptist on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 1 p.m. Burial followed on the family farm Bickmore.
