Simpson B. Neal, 76, of Bickmore, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Cabel Huntington Hospital after an extended illness.
Born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942, he was the son of Vernon and Leslie Neal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elmo Neal; sisters, Arlene Coen, Catherine Holcomb and Mozelle Cruikshank.
He was a 1961 graduate of Clay County High School where he was a member of the band and played the tuba. Simpson attended WVUIT. He loved astronomy and looking at and studying the stars as well as Ham radios, and was a jack of all trades.
He was a member and a deacon at the Lick Fork Baptist Church, where he also played the piano, taught Sunday school and was a Sunday school superintendent.
In years past he was a member of the Sun Lighters Quartet and the Neal Family Singers.
He was retired from Sears with 32 years of service. He was the best dad and papaw in the world. He was very proud of his granddaughters and his three great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, of 53 years, Martha Neal of Bickmore; daughter, Tammy Neal Cooper and husband Bill of Gauley Bridge; granddaughters, Kelli Grubb and husband Shandon of Fayetteville; Stephanie Oxley and husband James of Hinton; great-grandchildren, Dillon Grubb, Adalynn Grubb and Piper Oxley; several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A funeral service was held noon, Monday, September 17, at Wilson-Smith Funeral Home, Clay with Ministers John Osborne and Justin Neal officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.
