Paul Joe Grose, Sr., 84, a lifelong resident of Clay County, passed peacefully at his home Sunday morning, March 29, 2020, to be with his heavenly Father. His wife, Sherry, and his oldest daughter, Pam, were at his side at the time of his passing.
He was a devoted father to eight children. He was a coal miner, electrician, mechanic, and loved working on his farm. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed coon hunting, deer hunting, squirrel hunting, turkey hunting, and even fishing at times. He truly loved the woods and being outdoors. He loved raising a huge garden and sharing it with family and friends. He also had a great love for music and played a variety of instruments including his banjo, guitar, French harp, and, his favorite, the dobro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cluster Clifton Grose and Velma Dove Paxton Grose; four sisters, Betty Cincinnati, Wanda Joiner, Doris Zajicek, and Patty Walters; one brother, Clifton Grose; one granddaughter, Megan Danielle Flora; and one great granddaughter, Marissa Tackett. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lee Grose; his only son, Paul Joe Grose, Jr.; seven daughters, Pamela June McKinney, Judy Kay Rupe, Mary Ann Jordan, Marti Renae Hess, Mitzi Gale Eagle, Vicki Lynn Pearson, and Penny Deloris Carper. He has 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
He was laid to rest in the Grose family cemetery following graveside rights officiated by Pastor Wayne Litton and beautiful songs sung by Elizabeth Litton. He is loved deeply and will be sadly missed by many. We would like to thank the Wilson-Smith Funeral Home for their excellent service. They were so kind and helpful in a time when we really needed kindness and understanding. Love and appreciation to everyone involved from the family of Paul Joe Grose, Sr., our loving dad.
