Myrna Nell Weatherholt passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025 in her home at Windsor Run in Matthews, North Carolina. Nell was surrounded by her devoted husband Charlie of 65 years; loving daughter Jill; and her great caregivers Janaya and Toni. Nell’s other wonderful caregivers not present for her final moments included Rans, Cece, Susan, Mona and Quan.
Born March 9, 1939, in Ivydale, West Virginia, Nell was the youngest of four daughters of the late Reverend James J. and Merle Rogers. A lifelong Methodist, Nell was a woman of deep, but quiet faith. Among her survivors are her sisters Phyllis, age 98, of Madison, Alabama, and Sharon, age 90, of Nicholasville, Kentucky. Her sister Kathleen preceded her in death in 1992.
Nell graduated from Clay County High School in 1957 and continued her formal education to become an X-ray Technician at Charleston General Hospital. She met Charlie in Charleston, West Virginia. They were married September 4, 1960. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
Nell worked at Charleston General and supported Charlie through the remainder of his college education. She faithfully supported Charlie through a career of 33 years with the U.S. Defense Department, including the Corps of Engineers in Huntington, West Virginia; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Upon Charlie’s retirement in 1995, Nell was recognized for her contributions by the Assistant Secretary of the Army.
In addition, Nell worked for many years as the Assistant Director of a private school owned by the founders of Sunrise Assisted Living. She loved working with children, and they loved her in return, as evidenced by the many notes and small gifts she brought home.
Nell’s favorite pastimes included traveling overseas with Charlie, going on cruises, playing golf, shopping for bargains, and working Sudoku puzzles.
Unfortunately, the final 13 years of Nell’s life were spent fighting a courageous and tenacious battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Through it all, she maintained her spunky attitude and her love of music while always displaying her beautiful smile.
Nell will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton, West Virginia. Eventually, she’ll be joined by Charlie and Jill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to VIA Health Partners, whose compassionate care and support provided comfort during this difficult time. Donations can be made online at www.hpccr.org.
