Mildred Marie Salisbury, 96, of Clay, made Heaven even sweeter on Friday, September 25, 2020, at Summersville Regional Hospital.  She was born January 11, 1924 to E.H. and Lilly Elizabeth (Hively) Underwood.

As Marie entered into Heaven, she had a crowd of family members waiting to greet her.  Her husband, Wilbert Salisbury; her sons, Gary and Larry Salisbury; her daughter-in-law, Loretta Salisbury; her brothers, Dallas Underwood, Lee Underwood, and Howard Underwood; her sisters Bessie Fitzwater and Edith “Mittie” Underwood; and her grandsons, Chad Salisbury, Jeff Salisbury, and Kevin Salisbury.  Marie is survived by her sons, Jimmy Salisbury (Shelia) of Clay and  Lloyd Salisbury (Stephanie) of Manchester, Pennsylvania; daughter Ruth Workman (Randall) of Dixie, West Virginia; brother Robert Underwood of Ohio; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Marie will be remembered as the strong, independent, stubborn, loving, Christian lady that she was.  She would stand her ground no matter what the issue was, you would not change her mind.  She would not ask for help unless she absolutely had to. Marie would hug you so tight you could feel it an hour later.  She loved nothing more than family and friends visiting for hours, and if you left her house hungry, that was your own fault.  It didn’t matter if you called her Grandma Marie, Grandma Salisbury, or West Virginia Grandma, the grandkids knew where to go for a cookie or some candy.  She had a passion for feeding and watching birds.  She also loved watching and feeding other wild animals as long as they stayed away from her flower beds. She was a lady with so much knowledge and many talents.  Above all else, Marie loved her family with every ounce of her being.  She will be greatly missed here on Earth but embraced on the streets of gold!

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 1:00 P.M at Hively Cemetery in Wallback with Minister Wayne Litton. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.carlwilsonfuneralhome.com.
